What We Teach
Fellowship & Communion with God
The message of fellowship and communion with God is based on plain, simple scriptures. SOLM teaches how to develop a relationship with God and why so many have lost the fellowship with Him they once had. Jesus paid the price for us to have communion with the Godhead. God did not remove the barrier of sin between Himself and man and then make it hard for us to get to know Him. Many do not know Him because they are deceived by ways that seem right.
My Sheep Hear My Voice
We were meant to fellowship with the Lord and hear His voice. Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life (John 10:27-28a). Many do not believe it is possible to hear God, but it is simple to do when we trust Him and obey His instructions. There is a big difference between those who are merely born-again and those who know God personally and can communicate with Him. If we are unable to hear the Lord’s voice, we cannot obey Him. Many lean to their own understanding because they do not have the ability to hear His voice. Leaning to our own understanding is the opposite of what we should do if we want God to direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). If we lean to our understanding after being saved, we are like the world!
The Lordship of Jesus Christ
Jesus has the right by creation and redemption to be the literal Lord of our lives. If He is not the functional Lord of our lives each day, there will be no change in our Christian life. He knows what is best in every situation, but we have a free will and can choose to make selfish decisions instead of asking Him what to do. Many call Him, Lord, but those who do His will enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 7:21). We are told that He is our Lord and Saviour, but many never enjoy the relationship that comes when He is in control and directing their daily lives.
The Cost of Walking with God
Today, little is mentioned about counting the cost to follow Christ as explained in Luke 14:26-27. This truth is often portrayed as a negative part of the Gospel, yet people endure many hardships to have temporary benefits that will be consumed by fire (1 Corinthians 15). To know God, you must pay the cost to overcome your lordship through obedience so you can come into His presence and abide there. You must confess and repent of your sins and choose Him as your Lord every day. As you are reconciled to God, you can begin to know His heart and share your heart with Him.
Walking with God Daily
God said He would answer all those who call on His name. The Israelites called on Him when they were in trouble, but they returned to their own ways when He delivered them. Many of God’s children testify to hearing His voice in times of crisis or difficulty. However, talking to God about big decisions alone or only when things get tough is not the basis of a relationship.
Common Problems
Some try to get to know God by gaining greater knowledge of the Bible, but having a knowledge of the Scriptures does not produce eternal life. Many of those who belong to God spend their lives visiting Him occasionally instead of abiding in Him as Jesus commanded in John 15:1. Some are preoccupied with the blessings and gifts they can get from God, but this does not provide lasting solutions. Others have not enjoyed fellowship with God because their motives for seeking Him are impure or they have not been willing to pay the price to mortify their flesh and repent.
Fellowship with God
Many Christians want to get to know God, but they have not found the consistent relationship they have sought. He intends for us to hear His voice consistently, not just occasionally. In order to know God, we must spend quality time with Him, communicating and sharing from our hearts as well as being able to hear from Him.
More information on how to do this is found in the book, My Sheep Hear My Voice, as well as other books by Joseph Hedgecock.
